Tepoztlan,
Mexico. Early one morning...
"Why
study Spanish in Tepoztlan?"
Tepoztlan
is everything that you imagine Mexico to be: cobble stone
streets, bustling market stalls, friendly
people and a perfect climate all year round.
It
is considered one of Mexico's "Magic villages",
and is the perfect place to not only learn Spanish but
become absorbed in Mexican life and enjoy the most
relaxing and safe vacation you've ever experienced.

It's
not overrun with tourists, like San Miguel de
Allende, Oaxaca, or any of the beach
towns. It's not too hot like most places along the beach are
(good for swimming, but not for learning Spanish!), and it hasn't turned
into an ugly, over-industrialized city like Cuernavaca
or Guadalajara.
Here
is what Frommers travel guide has to say about Tepoztlan:
Tepoztlán
is one of the strangest and most beautiful
towns in Mexico.
Largely
undiscovered by foreign tourists, it occupies the floor
of a broad, lush valley whose walls were formed by bizarrely shaped
mountains that look like the work of some abstract expressionist giant.
Tepoztlán
is small and steeped in legend and mystery -- it is
adjacent to the alleged birthplace of Quetzalcoatl,
the Aztec serpent god -- and comes about as close as you're going to
get to an unspoiled, magical mountain hideaway.
Aside
from soaking up the ambience, two things you must do
are climbing up to the Tepozteco pyramid and hitting
the weekend crafts market.
If
you have a car, Tepoztlán provides a great
starting point for traveling this region of Mexico. Within
90 minutes are Las Estacas, Taxco, las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa, and Xochicalco
(some of the prettiest ruins in Mexico).
Tepoztlán
is 20 minutes from Cuernavaca and only an hour south of Mexico City,
which -- given its lost-in-time feel -- seems hard
to believe.
The weather:
It's
almost always sunny during the day, and cooler at night. From July to
September it's rainy season, when showers and storms in the afternoons
are common.
Here
are the average temperatures throughout the year:

"Worried
about the risks?"
This is a very common scenario. We all have a comfort
zone, and leaving that comfort zone can be threatening
and make our hearts pound with adrenalin.
But,
it can also be very exciting, and we long to get out
there and experience the world, see new things, new places, meet
new people, learn more and generally live our lives to
the fullest.
The
terror of arriving in a foreign airport where nobody
understands you and you can’t
understand anybody or anything, and nobody knows
who you are or where you come from or what
you want is something that haunts us all when
we think about travelling abroad.
Especially
when it comes to Mexico, there is a lot of bad
press, and you may have heard about how dangerous
it supposedly is.
Mexico,
like all countries, has risks. But these risks can be
easily avoided if you know what you’re
doing.
For
example, there’s the risk of getting sick. Do you
really want to spend a week of your three week vacation sitting on the
toilet?
If
you know where and what to eat, and where and what not
to eat, then you can spend years in Mexico without ever getting
sick.
But
if you don’t, then look out!

Although
you or your family are fascinated by
the culture and the language and the
promise of a new and different
way of life that Mexico offers, and you are bursting
with excitement to get down there and experience
it for yourself, you are paralyzed by fear at
the thought that something might happen to you and you
won’t be able to make yourself understood if you
get into trouble.
"Want
to learn Spanish, discover Mexico, and enjoy a relaxing
luxury vacation?"
This is not
only a trip to learn Spanish, but this is a vacation
for you or your family, in your precious vacation time,
and you'd like to enjoy your stay as much as possible,
as well as experience as much of Mexican culture
as possible.

'My
stay at the Spanish Cat last summer was fantastic. The accodomations
far exceeded my expectations, and the teachers and staff were delightful.
The
language learning experience was great fun.
My
only complaint is that I gained a few extra pounds because the cooks
at the Spanish Cat were amazing.
I highly recommend The Spanish Cat language school in Tepoztlan to those
who want to learn spanish in a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere.' -

Our great cook
Ema
The
Spanish Cat school is superb. The setting is marvelous and the academics
are both strenous and a great deal of fun. The teachers, esp. Juan and
Dahlia, are fantastic.
My
three daughters and I spent 2 wonderful weeks there this past August.
Everyone that was there was so impressed that they didn't want to leave.
I'll go back any time and any day. My 16 yr old was at Chac
mool in Cuernevaca for one week and didn't learn as much as she did
at the Spanish Cat.
The
Spanish course work is smart and progressive. Juan had enough patience
to take my 11 and 14 yr old from knowing no Spanish to actually speaking
confidently. Plus, he guides fantastic weekend trips designed by the
students.
Saludos, Mary Fleming

Who
are our students?
Unlike
the majority of language schools in Mexico, The Spanish
Cat doesn't get our students directly from high
schools and colleges in the US.
This means
that the atmosphere at The Spanish Cat is not one of young people out
to party.
Not that we
don't accept young people, in fact we believe that the younger you learn
a second language the better, but just that whatever your age
or background, you'll feel at home in our quiet, peaceful
surroundings, and will find people here you can feel comfortable
with.
During
school vacation periods we welcome families who
would like to come with their children and learn
Spanish together. We have special classes for
kids, and our safe environment is perfect
for them.
How
much is this going to cost me?
How
much would you regularly pay for a 2 or 3 week vacation, including hotels
and meals? At least $1000-$1500 per week.
When
you come to The Spanish Cat, you can have great vacation, eat delicious
home cooked food AND learn Spanish all for less than half that price.
